The Book That Love Built

DHS Book 2 “Bound to cover just a little more Ground” Projected release date June 2021

Deadhead Stories is an 8.5 x 11 inch, 350-page, color coffee table book woven from the stories, photographs and art of thousands of Deadheads.

There is no single author or artist because thousands of kind folks contributed to help preserve and pass down Deadhead history through their contributions to a Facebook group aptly called Deadhead Stories. Some spun a tale or two, many offered a memory, others shared their personal photos or artwork.

The idea was to utilize everyone’s skills, no matter how large or small. Editors, proofreaders, graphic designers, illustrators, artists, printers and so many more members, were active contributors to this project. In addition, all decisions relating to the book’s production, including title, chapter-layout and production design, were brought to the group to decide as a whole. Money raised from crowdfunding platforms like Go Fund Me and Kickstarter generated enough revenue to print the book 1, make T-shirts and pay for shipping costs. No one is being paid for their efforts and proceeds from the sale of the book and related merchandise will be donated. Same process for book 2

We invite you to join us on a trip down so many storied roads…

An awesome collective creation of so many stories from fans telling the history of the Grateful dead fans for 50+ years and still going. It will make you laugh, cry, chuckle and get pissed off.
What a book and a MUST have.

As much fun to read as it was to help create = a ton of fun.

  6. Tara Lucas

One hundred percent volunteer collective collaboration by thousands of fans , the deadheads. All net proceeds are donated to Rex Foundation and notable community charities. An amazingly beautiful and meaningful book built with love and “deadication .”

While I didn’t officially get on the bus until the early 90s the experiences are still out there waiting to unfold. It’s mainly for the curious that want to see what it’s like to experience the soul of the band, the fans and everything! The people, the interactions, the trips and your world really does change once get into the community. Can’t say enough good things about how everything changed once I got into the community. Really is a godsend. I’m happy Dan was able to put the book together.

All I can say is that if you want to connect with the most iconic San Francisco Bay Area band there ever was or will be, this book is the way. A book of love and loss and love again. And music. Always the music.

    Can’t put it down.
And I’m gonna be late for work.
