Mike DuBois

Extraordinary Donor

This community extends its deep gratitude to Mike, our “Extraordinary Donor,” for the gift of his art and his significant contribution to making this book a reality. During the early days, Mike’s donation of his custom cover art, If I Told You All That Went Down, It Would Burn Off Both Your Ears, started this project on its way to manifestation. Sales from his further donations of limited signed prints and T-shirts were instrumental in securing the funding needed for our first printing. Mike, from the whole group, this is such a Grateful way to go, and we are speechless and honored.

The art of Mike DuBois has been described as visionary, surrealistic and psychedelic, all of which fail to adequately encompass a body of work that transcends conventional categorization. His characteristic style sets him apart as an original artist. Working in mixed media, oil painting and computer graphics, DuBois has established himself as a pioneer in the work of contemporary music art, with commissions by: the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band, Hot Tuna, the Jerry Garcia Band, Michael Hedges, Wavy Gravy, Gov’t Mule, The Wailers, Phil Lesh and Friends, Levon Helm, Bob Weir and RatDog, Santana and the Rolling Stones, Furthur, Pink Floyd, and the Jimi Hendrix estate. His exhibitions include the Art Rock Gallery in San Francisco, the Bess Cutler Gallery in New York City and the James Cox Gallery in Woodstock, NY.

In addition to creating designs and artwork for the music industry, DuBois also produces tour merchandise and unique event products for shows and events including The Tampa Bay Blues Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, Jam Cruise, Mountain Jam, Nateva Music and Arts Festival, and We’re Doing it For Love, a benefit concert for Arthur Lee of the band Love, featuring Ian Hunter, Ryan Adams, Nils Lofgren, Yo La Tango and Robert Plant. In 2009, DuBois designed and illustrated the Grammy award-winning album Electric Dirt by Levon Helm; and in 2011, he designed and illustrated parts of the remastered and repackaged classic recording: Europe ‘72, a multi-disc set by The Grateful Dead.

Mike currently oversees Happylife Productions and DuBois Studios.
